Hi, I am Josh and I’m going to transform how we think about the world through the application and interpretation of the Golden Rule. This is my overarching theme in what I do. And it is my core principle.

I am a writer, marketer, and thinker. I help organizations use the Golden Rule to improve customer service, create new services, and delight clients.

Why did I create Golden Rule Now?

To improve the world, one small step at a time.

This page is for you to learn a bit about me. This site is about  you. This site is a journey. We will learn together, applying the Golden Rule to Business, Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Travel, Design, and other situations. Learning how to use the Golden Rule through active practice will improve your business, career, and possibly your life.

You may already know the Golden Rule, but how often do you actively apply it well?

Whether you work in a for-profit business or a non-profit organization, you want higher sales, more customers, and more happy customers who come back. Doing this well and consistently is hard. How do I know this? I worked in technical support, sales, and then in marketing. Every day I reminded myself, “Is this what I would want as a client?” Anytime I was tempted to slack off with a curt response, I used that question to provide an excellent answer. Every time I applied the Golden Rule success followed.

My Background

I always try to provide superior customer service through the use of the Golden Rule because it is how I am. Everyone can use the Rule to make more money and make people happier.

I am an experienced sales and marketing professional with 15 years of experience in technology, customer service, website development, business-to-business sales, and marketing. Recently I was the Marketo Practice Lead at Perkuto. Before that, I was Vice President of Marketing at Alacra, Inc, a business information provider focused on financial compliance and Know Your Customer data. I created demand at technology firms and media firms in Singapore, Boston and New York. I also managed Americas marketing and  multimillion dollar sales territories for the Economist Intelligence Unit, a division of The Economist Group.

I use the Golden Rule to build a philosophy of business and life. I found that if I work to help other people accomplish their goals, they will help accomplish mine. My goal is to spread the word about how to apply the Golden Rule to sales, customer service, marketing, and beyond.


I am an avid traveler, landing on my seventh continent, Africa, in November 2010. In 2012 I reached my 50th State (congratulations to Michigan!). I am also on a quest to visit the world’s ancient ruins and unusual natural wonders.

Why is travel important to me and why is it featured on this site? Travel leads to new experiences as well as new situations where the Golden Rule becomes crucial to avoiding misunderstandings as well as creating amazing experiences for travelers. Travel is a business as much as it is an exploration of the world. Organizations in the tourism and transport industry still have much to learn about providing Golden Rule service.

Fun and earned credentials:

There is much talk these days about becoming a relative expert and the value of academic degrees. I do have these credentials, found them valuable experiences, but also recognize that they are only part of the journey. Given the wealth of information on the internet, it should be easy for a diligent person to acquire expertise or an unusual, and valuable intersection of skills.

I earned a B.A. in Economics with Honors from Brandeis University and an MBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from The University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management.
